Website Development Services

If you are going to be talking to a web developer any time soon, we have created a video to help you learn some of the basic terminology and what to ask for.  We hope this will help you no matter who you end up hiring for the job. Some of the things you will need to think about are:
  • Domain Name
  • Hosting
  • The Design
  • The Functionality

Choosing the right web developer is an important decision. Your website is the first impression that most people will have of your business, service, or personal project. The experience a visitor has on your website can determine the future of your relationship with that person and the success you hope to have.

Think of your website as a vehicle. And in the same way that there are different types of automobiles for different purposes (e.g. racing, transport, passenger comfort, etc.), there are also different types of websites. It just depends on what you want it to do.

Some websites are purely to give information, and the way they look is not as important as the way they function. Think about the home page of Google — it is very simple and plain, but it serves a purpose. However, if you work in the arts, you might want a website that conveys a more elaborate sense of beauty.

Some websites need to perform better in search engine result pages, such as a local business or very competitive industries, so that when someone searching for those products or services queries specific words or phrases, the website comes up higher on the list. This is what is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It requires both technical know-how and smart content planning.

Our Specialties

WordPress

Most of the websites we build are with WordPress, a very popular platform that as of the year 2020 makes up 30% of the entire web!!! WordPress is suitable for most kinds of websites, including e-commerce shops. Learn more about WordPress help in the Washington DC area.

Software UIs

We also can create user interfaces (UI) for your software products. Some software built on top of platforms such as .NET, Java, or Python, were built by people who know a lot about data, but less about design. Let us put a great user experience on top of your data.

Accessibility

Many websites, especially governmental websites, need to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), sometimes legally known as Section 508. What this means is that people with disabilities who cannot properly use a keyboard or a mouse, have to have ways of operating your website. People who are color-blind also need to be taken into consideration when designing a website.

Do-It-Yourself Websites

There are some perfectly viable and inexpensive options out there, such as Wix or Squarespace, that offer a do-it-yourself, turnkey service whereby you can create your own website with pre-formatted blocks of layout, text and, content. There’s nothing wrong with these services, but they do have drawbacks.

Do-it-yourself websites lack flexibility and uniqueness. They all tend to look the same, and your business or project will not stand out. These websites also risk being taken down by Wix or Squarespace if they deem the content of your site to be in violation of their “terms of conduct,” whatever that might arbitrarily be.

These sites can also be quire clunky and slow, effecting both your users’ experience and search engine optimization (SEO).
